Oceans

We started this collection because one day we had extra paint left over before closing the painting session, and the first artwork was born, Reef. We loved it. Then Clara went surfing with Timothy, and she came back with the whole collection in her head.

Then Clara and Carlo went to take the pictures on the beach. They never follow a script. They were using seaweed to do it. Lots of people stopped them, some who were already Clara's followers, some who were just curious.

"Life was not always easy for me. I had a stroke in my mom's womb, and that caused cerebral palsy and 11 other diagnoses. I even know all of them by name. But I never gave up. I try to say yes to life. Even when mobility is difficult. Even when communication is difficult. And then life gives me angels. To help me. To inspire me. To make me thrive, despite everything. Timothy is one of those angels. He helped me stop fearing the ocean. I never knew I would love dropping a wave so much. It inspired me to paint about the ocean. And I love this collection." — Clara Woods

SPOTTED IN

Hi, I’m Clara.

Sometimes people tell me I shouldn’t dream so big. That because I can’t speak, read, or write, I should “stay quiet.” But I don’t want to stay quiet. I want to paint louder.

I had a stroke while I was still in my mom’s womb. The doctors told her my life would be a nightmare. But here I am — building my future.

Even though I can’t speak, read, or write, I understand three languages — English, Portuguese, and Italian. I guess my brain found its own way to communicate, just not the one doctors expected.

I’m writing this with the help of my mom (my business partner, my best friend, and my biggest cheerleader) and ChatGPT — and reading it with my text-to-speech app.

Painting became my language. It’s how I share everything I can’t say with words — my love, my anger, my hope, and my joy. Because even if my voice sounds different, I want you to hear me.
