AWKWARDNESS, original
AWKWARDNESS
Mixed media on canvas with polystyrene collage, 2024

"I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it's true I'm here, and I'm just as strange as you.”
This quote always brings tears to my eyes—because it’s exactly how Clara feels.
There are days when we’re out and people just stare. They don’t ask. They don’t smile. Their eyes say, “What’s wrong with her?”
And Clara feels it. She’s not unaware. When she gets home, she cries. It hurts!
AWKWARDNESS is messy and beautiful, like that feeling when you’re trying to be yourself but also wondering if you’re too much, or not enough.
The heart is built in 3D, with polystyrene and collage. Textures, fabrics, colors—none of it matches...
The smile is unsure, almost embarrassed. But if you look closer… there's joy in there. A spark. Some hope.
And maybe that’s why I think this painting is for someone out there who also feels out of place sometimes. Someone who hides their quirks or their softness. Someone who feels like they don’t fit the mold, but deep down wants to feel seen just as they are.
Maybe that someone is you. Maybe AWKWARDNESS belongs with you. It’s an original, and it won’t be here forever.

I want everyone in the world to have one of my artworks because...
⭐️ Emma said: "I cried when I opened my painting… it is gorgeous Thank you Clara you have given me a beautiful gift that will touch me every time

I am so honored to have this Original expression of effort to remind me that “Although sometimes long and challenging, you can find solutions for sadness, depression, or loneliness.” It will help me remember that this is both a process and a journey that can get brighter as time passes. And most importantly that the best is yet to come!"

In most cases, when I paint on canvas, I also paint the borders, so it is not necessary to frame the painting. The boards are part of the artwork. To hang it on the wall, you can easily follow a youtube tutorial that teaches in shorts steps how to do it or you can write to info@clarawoods.art and ask for a 20 min videocall with my dad Carlo. He is magic and can guide you!

Hi, I’m Clara.
I had a stroke inside my mom’s belly, so I can’t speak, read, or write—but I understand three languages and use art to share my feelings with the world.
I started painting when I was 11, just for fun. Then I read a book about Frida Kahlo and everything changed. She became my muse, and I decided to follow her steps. At 12, I had my first art exhibition—and never stopped.
Since then, I’ve had shows on three continents, became one of the official artists for the 2026 Olympic Games, and was named a Forbes Game Changer. Today, I’m also leading The Inclusion Matters Movement—to make sure everyone feels seen, valued, and loved just as they are.
