Clara's relationship with Jesus has always been complicated and real. When she was little, she had deep experiences with him. Like when she was 3 years old and couldn't walk by herself—she could only walk holding onto two people. One day at kindergarten, something changed. When my dad went to pick her up, the teacher said "you need to come and see what happened." He walked into the school yard and there was Clara, walking all by herself. He was so shocked he called us at work and asked everyone to come outside to the parking lot. When they got to the car, Clara looked at my dad and made the sign of Jesus, like she was telling him "he helped me walk."

There were other moments too, like when her brother Davi was born and Clara was so worried about whether he would be able to talk or not. Jesus was always there in these big moments.

But as Clara is growing up and seeing how the real world works, how she has to fight for each aspect of her life because she doesn't have the same opportunities as everyone else, things got more complicated. She's had waves of fighting with Jesus, loving Jesus, hating Jesus, being best friends with Jesus. It's been a journey with all the feelings.

Now, Clara is starting to have a more thankful relationship with God. More peace, more acceptance, more understanding. And that's where this painting comes from.

Look at this Jesus: modern, bold, with that bright neon pink face and those strong black brushstrokes. This isn't your quiet, traditional Jesus. This is Jesus rocking our worlds, meeting Clara where she is, in all her complexity and honesty. The contrasting colors, the energy in those strokes, that's Clara working through all those feelings and finding her way to gratitude.

Hi, I’m Clara.

Sometimes people tell me I shouldn’t dream so big. That because I can’t speak, read, or write, I should “stay quiet.” But I don’t want to stay quiet. I want to paint louder.

I had a stroke while I was still in my mom’s womb. The doctors told her my life would be a nightmare. But here I am — building my future.

Even though I can’t speak, read, or write, I understand three languages — English, Portuguese, and Italian. I guess my brain found its own way to communicate, just not the one doctors expected.

I’m writing this with the help of my mom (my business partner, my best friend, and my biggest cheerleader) and ChatGPT — and reading it with my text-to-speech app.

Painting became my language. It’s how I share everything I can’t say with words — my love, my anger, my hope, and my joy. Because even if my voice sounds different, I want you to hear me.

Clara is speaking louder than ever in this new collection, and wow, do we hear her.

Unmuted is full of surprises. You'll see tiny, careful drawings where Clara used hundreds of little shapes to build something bigger—like a giraffe with a rainbow tale she saw at the zoo, or Chocolate, her guinea pig who she loved so much, or a friend's dog. You'll find these mix, big paintings, small artworks, some bright colors and glitter cnstrating with  pieces are soft and gentle with pastels. 

The animals in these works are special. Animals don't use words either, but they communicate everything—through how they move, how they look at you, how they just are. Clara gets that. She sees herself in them. And when she paints them, she's painting her own voice too.

What we love most about this collection is the freedom in it. Clara is experimenting, taking risks, making art that's mirror her. Small pieces, medium ones, huge canvases that are 48x60 inches—each one is Clara saying something that we still need to look, star at it, handle our emotions and be ready for a wave of beauty.
