Rogue, Original

This is one of Clara's most detailed works ever, and it took her about a month to finish.

Rogue was a French Bulldog, and the inspiration for Rogue Creatives, the space where we rent a desk and call it Clara Woods Collection Headquarters (manifesting that one day we'll have our own!). Matt Barnes adopted Rogue in 2009, and she became the heart of that place—cuddly, sweet, watermelon-loving, and so full of joy.

Clara never got to meet Rogue—she had already passed away before we started at Rogue Creative. But Clara sees her everywhere because Rogue is the logo of the studio. Clara always felt so welcomed, included, and loved there, and she wanted to do something special to celebrate the dog who started it all.

Look at all those tiny squares Clara made—hundreds of them, each one drawn individually to build the rainbow background around Rogue. Clara worked on this piece with so much patience and focus, adding square after square, color after color. And there's Rogue in the center with her big sweet eyes and her little blue shirt that says "ROGUE," sitting just like she always did.

From what we heard about Rogue, she was exactly like Clara—loved people, loved to connect, loved bringing joy and happiness to everyone around her. Even though they never met, Clara understood her spirit. This artwork is Clara honoring that kindness, that light, that welcome.

The artworks have a layer of UV acrylic translucent paint. You can wipe off dust with a humid toil.

Hi, I’m Clara.

Sometimes people tell me I shouldn’t dream so big. That because I can’t speak, read, or write, I should “stay quiet.” But I don’t want to stay quiet. I want to paint louder.

I had a stroke while I was still in my mom’s womb. The doctors told her my life would be a nightmare. But here I am — building my future.

Even though I can’t speak, read, or write, I understand three languages — English, Portuguese, and Italian. I guess my brain found its own way to communicate, just not the one doctors expected.

I’m writing this with the help of my mom (my business partner, my best friend, and my biggest cheerleader) and ChatGPT — and reading it with my text-to-speech app.

Painting became my language. It’s how I share everything I can’t say with words — my love, my anger, my hope, and my joy. Because even if my voice sounds different, I want you to hear me.

Clara is speaking louder than ever in this new collection, and wow, do we hear her.

Unmuted is full of surprises. You'll see tiny, careful drawings where Clara used hundreds of little shapes to build something bigger—like a giraffe with a rainbow tale she saw at the zoo, or Chocolate, her guinea pig who she loved so much, or a friend's dog. You'll find these mix, big paintings, small artworks, some bright colors and glitter cnstrating with  pieces are soft and gentle with pastels. 

The animals in these works are special. Animals don't use words either, but they communicate everything—through how they move, how they look at you, how they just are. Clara gets that. She sees herself in them. And when she paints them, she's painting her own voice too.

What we love most about this collection is the freedom in it. Clara is experimenting, taking risks, making art that's mirror her. Small pieces, medium ones, huge canvases that are 48x60 inches—each one is Clara saying something that we still need to look, star at it, handle our emotions and be ready for a wave of beauty.
