This artwork stayed in our studio for a very long time. Clara had painted it on an MDF board she found around the house. We thought the piece was “too raw,” too unfinished to be shown.
Then one afternoon I walked into our home and Carlo had built a frame for it. And when I saw it framed like that, it felt like the piece had finally found its place. Carlo looked at it and said, “You know what this is called? From Scars to Stars.” I loved it!
Because that is our life. That is Clara's story.
There is one scar in particular that I will never forget. Clara was around nine years old, sitting in her classroom — a space that should have been safe, supportive, gentle. But instead, her teacher, looked at her and said she was “a weight to the class,” and that she “should be in an institute.” Imagine being a child, already trying so hard to understand a world that moves too fast and speaks too loud, and hearing that you don’t belong.
Little Clara didn’t cry. She didn’t break down.
She stood up from her chair. She walked to the board. She flipped off the teacher — the only way she knew to say, “You’re wrong about me.”
But she didn’t tell me. She kept it inside, the way she always did with the big, painful things. Then a mom from the class called me. She had heard what happened and felt I needed to know. The school never bothered to tell me.
When I asked Clara about it, she finally broke. And the way she cried… I had never seen her like this before. That wound stayed with us — one of those deep scars life leaves behind.
From Scars to Stars is exactly what it says: a journey from hurt into strength, from breaking into becoming, from being underestimated into being unmissable.
This piece is a reminder that scars don’t mean the story is over. Sometimes they’re the beginning of the brightest part.
And if you bring it into your home, that reminder will be there every day. In the good moments, in the hard ones, and in the ones where you need to remember that even the most painful chapters can turn into something powerful.
Just like Clara did.
