La Bella Vita, original

16x12" (40x30cm) - La Bella Vita means "the beautiful life" in Italian. Clara is living proof that you can choose it even when things are hard. Despite her difficulties, her limitations, all the stuff she has to push through every single day, she keeps trying. She doesn't give up. Last week in the studio, Clara came in super happy, singing and jumping around, then she tripped on the carpet and fell hard. Instead of getting up right away, she just lay there on the floor and cried. She told me, "Sometimes I'm just tired of fighting all the things I need to fight every day." Then she started laughing, got herself up, and kept going. That's La Bella Vita right there. It is about choosing joy even when you're exhausted. It's falling down and crying and then laughing at yourself and getting back up anyway. It's deciding that life is beautiful even when it's really, really hard. Let this piece remind you that you can do that too. That choosing beauty doesn't mean pretending struggle doesn't exist. It means living fully anyway.

Postcards from Italy: Clara created this little original collection before packing our bags to Italy. You know that feeling when you're about to go back home? Something starts moving inside you before you even leave. Old memories. Stories your nonno used to tell get louder in your head. You remember smells, voices, the way light looked.

Being far from your roots is not easy. You grow, you build, you create somewhere else, but there is always a string pulling you back.

Watching Clara counting the days to this trip… her happiness is overwhleming, in the best way. Her heart is so pure! It’s so nice to see, and I’m learning so much from her. And this collection is about this feeling. About being happy, thankful, and noticing the beauty that is all around. Life is full of it. We just need to see.

SPOTTED IN

Hi, I’m Clara.

Sometimes people tell me I shouldn’t dream so big. That because I can’t speak, read, or write, I should “stay quiet.” But I don’t want to stay quiet. I want to paint louder.

I had a stroke while I was still in my mom’s womb. The doctors told her my life would be a nightmare. But here I am — building my future.

Even though I can’t speak, read, or write, I understand three languages — English, Portuguese, and Italian. I guess my brain found its own way to communicate, just not the one doctors expected.

I’m writing this with the help of my mom (my business partner, my best friend, and my biggest cheerleader) and ChatGPT — and reading it with my text-to-speech app.

Painting became my language. It’s how I share everything I can’t say with words — my love, my anger, my hope, and my joy. Because even if my voice sounds different, I want you to hear me.
